GULFPORT - And then there were five.
During a special meeting Monday night, the City Council selected five finalists for the city manager's job. In-person interviews are scheduled for Sept. 29-30.
The candidates are:
Thomas Brobeil, city manager of Indian Rocks Beach.
Patrick Guilfoyle, former township administrator of Plainsboro, N.J.
James Jarboe, chief operating officer for a Jacksonville radio station and former city manager of Alachua.
Anthony Shoemaker, assistant county administrator in Hillsborough County.
Linda Tucker, city manager of Isle of Palms, S.C.
For the interviews, each candidate will meet with the council as a whole, then with department heads and the acting city manager. Residents can meet them during a social that evening at the Casino. On the second day, the candidates will have individual interviews with each council member. During a special council meeting the afternoon of Sept. 30, a candidate is expected to be selected and offered a contract, with a salary not to exceed $110,000.
Gulfport started looking for a city manager a few months ago, when longtime manager Robert E. Lee took the top administrator position in Naples, Fla.
