Half of the Monkees, two Brady Bunch kids and, of course, a Sweathog. Both inhabitants of the Blue Lagoon. Former stars of Saturday Night Live and Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Cindy Crawford's ex-husband.
They're all among the thousands of actors who have appeared on stage in Grease, one of the most popular and ubiquitous musicals of all time.
The list of famous Grease alumni features some big names of entertainment past and present. Some, including John Travolta and Jeff Conaway, were in the movie version. As was Frankie Avalon, who is starring in the current road show. Stage veteran Adrian Zmed starred in the follow-up film, Grease 2.
But there are some surprises on the list, too. Richard Gere had the lead role (Danny Zuko) in the original London production 30 years ago, which makes it strange that everyone made a big deal about his singing and dancing in the film version of Chicago last year. Peter Gallagher, now in the TV show The O.C., and whose breakout film role was the decidedly un-Grease-y sex, lies and videotape, played Danny in 1978. Pretty Baby Brooke Shields starred with Star Search warbler Sam Harris in a 1995 Broadway revival. Saturday Night Live's Joe Piscopo was DJ Vince Fontaine in a 1996 road show with Zmed and Scottish pop star Sheena Easton.
