A comedy about a cash-strapped psychiatrist, Meanwhile Back On The Couch... plays this weekend as dinner theater at Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club (formerly Andre's Restaurant). The play is produced by Gulf Islands Civic Theatre.
Meanwhile Back On The Couch ... is about a shrink, Victor Karleen (Phil Isasi), who is in financial trouble because of the expensive lifestyle of his girlfriend, Gabrielle Wingate (April Snider).
The news gets worse when his latest book flops.
His publisher, Parker Donnelly (John McLaughlin), tells him the public is bored with books on case histories. Victor has a client, Albert Brock (Kevyn Arms) who is writing a steamy sex novel. He only writes a chapter at a time, during his sessions with the psychiatrist.
By mistake, Victor's secretary, Charlotte Henneebon (Jean Baumgardner) gives the publisher the client's racy unfinished manuscript, and Victor is rewarded with a hefty advance. In order to make the publisher's deadline, however, Victor pulls a few tricks to keeps his client a bit crazy until he finishes the book.
Rounding out the cast are Dorothea Melnick (Dolores Elwood), Albert's grandmother; Roy Terrigan (Larry Blanken), a psychiatrist friend of Karleen's who is a successful author; and Jingle Jabonski (Jane Smith), as Victor's neighbor (who has a crush on Albert, the sex-story author). Smith is also the play's director.
