Bigger things after boot camp

Two Pinellas County startups will be among 16 Florida companies making pitches to investors at a meeting in Orlando this week.

Cerebit Inc. of St. Petersburg and Clinication Inc. of Palm Harbor were selected from more than 50 applicants to present at the Central Florida Innovation Corp.'s conference, aimed at connecting early stage tech companies with venture investors. Also presenting are Secure Biometric Corp. of Tampa, Franwell Software Inc. of Plant City and Where-Tech LLC of Sarasota.

Cerebit, an information security company, and Clinication, which has a Web-based medical compliance system, are both about a year old. They're also both graduates of Tampa Bay Technology Forum's first Entrepreneurial Boot Camp, held in November.

The boot camp helped Cerebit recruit an angel investor who became chief executive. Clinication's founder, Adee Feinstein, said the two-day crash course in entrepreneurship helped him find an attorney, an accountant, advisory board members and a data center.

"The company was started in June 2002 and I went to the boot camp in November," Feinstein said. "Between June and November, I kicked around an idea. After attending the boot camp, I was able to put together a company."

The Tech Forum's next boot camp, which costs $199 for members and $299 for non-members, is scheduled for Oct. 28-29. More information is available at www.tbtf.org
