SAN ANTONIO - The municipalities of San Antonio and St. Leo finalized their yearly budgets and set tax rates this week, with San Antonio preparing for a major streets overhaul.
On Monday, St. Leo Town Commissioners unanimously approved a $352,249 budget for the fiscal year beginningWednesday. The tax rate remained at $3 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Although the rate remained the same, the state considers it a 4.2-percent increase over last year due to increases in property value.
And on Wednesday, San Antonio City commissioners set their city's tax rate at the same $2.53 per $1,000 of value rate as last year. The state considers the rate a 5.4-percent increase, however, again due to increases in assessed property values.
San Antonio's $912,717 budget for the coming year includes $236,547 to run the water system and $300,000 to begin repaving several city streets.
In addition to approving a budget Wednesday, San Antonio commissioners agreed to turn over animal control services to Pasco County. Residents now will have to abide by county animal regulations, and calls to complain about nuisance animals, such as roaming or barking dogs, must be directed to Pasco County Animal Control at (352) 521-5194 , rather than calling City Hall.
