WIMAUMA - A public meeting to discuss the construction of soccer fields at Wimauma Park will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdayat the Wimauma Civic Center, 5705 Hillsboro St.
Residents have asked that the existing softball field be converted into two soccer fields. Plans also call for a concession stand, bleachers, an irrigation system and an outdoor restroom. Construction is expected to begin in mid October and be completed by December. A Community Development Block Grant will fund the $161,000 project.
"The baseball people moved to Balm, and there is a big group of kids that play soccer there," said John Brill, Hillsborough County Park, Recreation and Community spokesman. "They ran out of room to play, so we are converting it."
County staff will attend the meeting to discuss the project and answer questions.
