Wallin lifts Minnesota to victory in overtime

EDMONTON, Alberta - Rickard Wallin scored on a rebound 2:12 into overtime Saturday night to give Minnesota a 3-2 victory over Edmonton.

The Oilers' Tony Salmelainen had tied the score with 1:10 left in regulation.

Kyle Wanvig and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored second-period goals for the Wild. Raffi Torres had the other goal for Edmonton.

THRASHERS 3, PREDATORS 2, OT: Dany Heatley scored on the power play 58 seconds into overtime as Atlanta defeated Nashville in Richmond, Va.

The Predators' Scott Hartnell was called for hooking with 53 seconds remaining in the third. In overtime, Heatley took a pass from Vyacheslav Kozlov and beat Keri Lehtonen high.

Nashville's Vladimir Orszagh put back Adam Hall's rebound at 16:07 of the third period to tie it 2. Nashville's Scott Hartnell evened it at 1 midway through the final period. Marc Savard, acquired last season from Calgary, scored 1:22 after Hartnell's goal.

PENGUINS 2, CAPITALS 1: Colby Armstrong and Kris Beech scored a goal and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots to lead Pittsburgh to a victory over Washington in Portland, Maine.

Armstrong put the Penguins ahead 1-0 with a short-handed goal 42 seconds into the third period. Beech scored from the left circle 6:13 into the period, drilling the puck past goalie Olaf Kolzig.

DEVILS 4, FLYERS 2: John Madden scored an unassisted power-play goal in the third period to lead host New Jersey to a victory over Philadelphia.

Christian Berglund, Ray Giroux and Jeff Friesen also scored for the Devils, who snapped a two-game losing streak. The Flyers, who had won three of their first four games, got goals from Jeremy Roenick and Sami Kapanen.

SENATORS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 1: Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist as Ottawa beat Toronto in St.John's, Newfoundland. It was the Senators' second win over the Maple Leafs in as many days.

Daniel Giroux, Chris Phillips, Peter Schastlivy and Todd White also scored for the Senators. Alexander Mogilny scored for the Leafs.

STARS 3, RED WINGS 2: Bill Guerin scored two goals and Sergei Zubov had two assists as Dallas beat visiting Detroit.

Dominik Hasek played two periods and made 13 saves on 16 shots. Detroit received a first-period goal from Pavel Datsyuk.

Stars goaltender Marty Turco played the opening period and made 10 saves on 11 shots in his first preseason action. Ron Tugnutt played the final two periods, allowing a goal on 13 shots.

Rookie Finn Antti Miettinen put Dallas ahead 2-1 at 13:40 of the middle period on a power play. Then Guerin scored again on a wrist shot over Hasek's shoulder with 21 seconds remaining in the second. The Reds Wings' Jason Williams produced the final goal at 8:59 of the third.

CANADIENS 3, SABRES 1: Marcel Hossa, Sheldon Souray and Patrice Brisebois scored to lead host Montreal.

Souray, who missed all of last season because of a wrist injury, assisted on Hossa's goal 13:32 in and scored his first goal in three preseason games at 16:33 of the second.

Brisebois recorded a power-play goal 10:55 into the third, and Jose Theodore made 25 saves as the Canadiens got their first win. For the Sabres, Curtis Brown scored early in the second.
