'Trading Spaces' looks for homes, boats

Trading Spaces: Family, the wildly popular home makeover show that appears on cable's TLC, is coming to the Tampa Bay area in December.

If you've always envisioned yourself working alongside the designers and carpenters to redo a room in a friend's home while your friends do the same for you, this is your chance. Deadline for applications is Oct. 24. Six households will be involved.

The show plans to do "two regular shows," said Banyan Productions spokeswoman Cindy Keenan, each involving rooms in two sets of homes, preferably next-door neighbors or within a two-minute walk of each other. For their third makeover, they want to do boats.

Each family must include at least one person between the ages of 9 and 19. Each team may have up to four people, who all must live under the same roof, but they can be related in a variety of ways: parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.

The rooms to be transformed must be at least 14 by 14 feet; no master bedrooms allowed.

Friends who are making over each other's boats need not be neighbors. The boats will be moved to adjacent slips in a local marina for the makeover.

The boats must be 40 to 50 feet long, with the main living area in excess of 14 by 14 feet and ceilings at least 7 feet high.

If you're interested in participating in the boat makeover, send an e-mail to Tricia Kornutik at For the home makeover, e-mail Keenan at

Include your name, address and e-mail address; you will receive an application form and details on the kinds of photos they need.

Producers will conduct phone interviews to whittle down the list. Then in November a producer will come to this area to visit the homes and boats on the short list and choose the final participants.
