"Titanic" sails on and on

Six years after Leonardo DiCaprio and that old woman's pendant sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, people still can't get enough of Titanic.

Starting Saturday, Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry is presenting "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit," a collection of personal items and ship equipment rescued from the doomed ocean liner's final resting place.

MOSI is bringing its IMAX Dome Theatre into the event with screenings of two films on the subject: the 1995 release Titanica (see review, below) and James Cameron's Ghosts of the Abyss, which got a limited local run (and B+ review in the St. Petersburg Times) this year. That engagement was shown with 3-D projection but in a standard-sized projection format.

Now another tradeoff: Ghosts of the Abyss will be seen in IMAX sight and sound dimensions at MOSI, but the theater doesn't have 3-D capabilities.

Titanica is scheduled to be shown in rotation with other IMAX offerings until spring. Ghosts of the Abyss will be presented through Oct. 31.

Show times vary, so checking the museum's Web site (www.mosi.org) or calling (813) 987-6000 is highly recommended before making plans. Tickets for the films only ($5.95 children, $7.95 adults, $6.95 seniors) may be purchased in advance online or by telephone. Ticket packages and group rates including the Titanic artifacts exhibit are available.
