SPRING HILL - A Spring Hill man is being held without bail after he was accused of threatening to kill a Department of Children and Families social worker, who reportedly barred him from seeing his child, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.
John D. Calandra, 56, of 2210 Godfrey Ave., was arrested on Wednesday. He is accused of making nine harassing phone calls to the social worker, whose name is being withheld by the Times due to the nature of the allegations.
The first calls began on Tuesday, hours after the social worker suspended Calandra's visitation with his child because of child abuse allegations, the Sheriff's Office said.
A sheriff's arrest report said Calandra found the social worker's name in the telephone directory and made several telephone calls during which he said he knew where she lived.
The social worker reported the incident to the Sheriff's Office, who contacted Calandra and told him to stop calling her home. But he didn't stop, the report said.
Calandra called the social worker six more times; he also called his attorney, stating in two voice mail messages that he wanted to kill the social worker, the report said.
Calandra was taken into custody after the incident and charged with one count of threats against a public servant. He was being held at Hernando County Jail.
