UNIVERSITY NORTH - It's not an all-day celebration of cleanser. Saturday's S.O.A.P. Show, or "Speak Out Against" performance, is an outdoor rock concert to raise money for the Spring of Tampa Bay, Inc. domestic violence shelter.

"We now know that the largest group of domestic violence victims is between the age of 16 to 24," said The Spring's director of communications Tuesdi Fenter. "It's a population we haven't spent the majority of our time focusing on in the past."

The S.O.A.P. Show has been designed to cater to a younger demographic by taking its cue from the popular outdoor punk festival the Warped Tour. Saturday's day-long concert will take place in the outdoor area next to the University of South Florida Sun Dome and feature displays and activities from Skate Park of Tampa and Coca-Cola Road Jam. The show has been promoted through the alternative rock station 97.1 FM-WSUN, or 97X, and its sponsors include Verizon, Jaguar of Tampa and Lazy Days.

The lineup consists of local and national rock acts: Everclear front man Art Alexakis, Authority Zero, Yellowcard, VonRay, The HISS, Franky Perez, Big Dismal, Big Sky, Urbane Cowboys, 2nd Day Broadcast, Code Sunshine and The Beauvilles.

"We tried to find bands that would mesh into that age range, things that would be more alternative," said concert manager Eric Torres.

All proceeds will benefit the Spring, which currently has shelter space to occupy 102 domestic violence victims. A United Way agency, the Spring also offers an educational program, donation center and resale store.

The Spring hopes to turn the S.O.A.P. Show into an annual event, aspiring for an increased awareness of domestic violence in the community.

"People always assume domestic violence happens to someone else," said Fenter. "Domestic violence doesn't have any bias."

If You Go: The S.O.A.P. Show is from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at parking lot six adjacent to the USF Sun Dome, 4202 E Fowler Ave. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door with a $2 discount for USF students, available through Ticketmaster and the Sun Dome box office. Call 974-3002.
