TIM GRANTThe one-day event at Idlewild Baptist Church promises to help women get organized and get better connected to loved ones.
CARROLLWOOD - If Teacups Could Talk . . . What Would Yours Say?
Most likely the same things your sister's would say.
That's the idea behind a women's conference that will take place Oct. 11 at Idlewild Baptist Church.
Women of all ages and from all walks of life will experience a one-day seminar designed to help them organize their homes and strengthen their relationships with their friends, families and God.
"We're trying to help women wherever they are," said Mike Kahn, a minister at Idlewild. "If they are looking for stronger faith, we want to help fill the voids in their lives."
Linda Cornett, chairman of the Idlewild women's conference, said it will be a day of laughter, female bonding and testimonies of hope and faith in a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere.
The keynote speaker will be Emilie Barnes, a nationally known motivational speaker for church retreats and women's conferences.
Barnes will talk about creative ways women can simplify their lives by getting organized. She also will share her own story of hope, healing and faith inspired by her battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which started 51/2 years ago.
"I think it can give them hope," said Barnes, who lives in Newport Beach, Calif. "Many women have been touched by cancer in one way or another."
Mrs. Cornett said Barnes' message resonates with not only cancer victims but also people who are hurting or struggling to overcome all kinds of challenges.
"She has a new relationship with God," Mrs. Cornett said. "Her walk with the Lord is much deeper and she can identify with people who are going through things in their lives."
The conference will include a continental breakfast and a catered lunch. The conference area will be decked with flowers. Guests will wear decorative name tags and all restroom facilities will be designated for women.
Kendra Cook Penn, a soloist and worship leader, will provide musical entertainment.
Register online at www.idlewild.org or by calling 264-4636, ext. 395. The conference costs $30 and can accommodate 1,700 people.
The Women's Conference is an annual event at Idlewild, which has planned prior conferences in partnership with Moody Bible Institute. Idlewild is hosting this year's Women's Conference independently.
