Sound bites

If a great comeback happens on a television that was turned off with the score 28-7 and no one was awake to see or hear, does it make a sound?

Sure it does. The next morning, when you hear the final score: "Aggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!"

Hard to blame you for tuning out and turning in, since it was another blowout on Monday Night Football ... and the Bucs were ahead by 28 ... in the fourth quarter ... with that defense.

As time expired, Al Michaels fittingly quoted MNF broadcasting legend Howard Cosell, who once after ripping a game that turned out like Monday's game, said "What a football game this turned out to be."

Where were you the night of one the NFL's greatest comebacks ever?

Sleeping?

- Michaels, arguably the smoothest voice in television, and Madden may be the biggest names in football broadcasting, but what makes Monday Night Football most notable is the excellence of its camera equipment and crew.

They delivered great work, highlighted by the pictures of Keenan McCardell's first touchdown catch (Brad Johnson dropping the ball in there perfectly), Tom Tupa's second-quarter punt that nose-dived at the Colt 1 and the Colts' last onside kick.

- The Shakespearian opening featuring Jack Black, with a guest appearance by rapper Snoop Dogg, was entertaining.

But Michaels opening monologue - something about power polls and how a win could vault the Colts to number one in those polls - was lacking. Talk about teams moving up in polls where the NFL is concerned just doesn't resonate.

- We're not here to bash Lisa Guerrero. In fact, we thought it was sweet of her to wear Bucs colors.

- Anyone know where Player University is? That's where Simeon Rice said he went to college during player introductions. And do Player University alumni hate the Game University?

- Okay, we can't resist. We're all for accurate reporting, so when Guerrero looks at her notepad to read off a quote, we're cool with that.

But you couldn't memorize: Brian Kelly is out, Tim Wansley is in?

Just adds fuel to the she-knows nothing-about-football argument.

- Keyshawn Johnson was featured in MNF's Mic'd Up segments and didn't disappoint. Twice in the first half Johnson took aim at Colt WR Marvin Harrison, first saying "when I play against my class of '96, I always dominate." Harrison, like Johnson, was drafted in '96.

After Harrison caught a screen pass, Johnson said "That's how he gets his catches. He's the best receiver, and that's how he gets his catches?"

We could point out that Harrison's stats the past four seasons dwarf Johnson's, but since he took umbrage with Harrison catching a screen pass and intimated the guy gets cheap stats, it should be noted: Harrison has 21 catches of at least 40 yards; Johnson has 2.

- Our favorite cross-promotional commercials were the ones for 8 Simple Rules for Milking John Ritter's Death.

- In the first half Madden ranked the Bucs defense with the 1970s Steelers and the '85 Bears as one of the best three of all time. No word on whether he changed his mind after the second half.
