One new principal and two new schools named

SEFFNER - The School Board on Tuesday appointed Durant High administrator Maria Singfield as Armwood High's new principal. Singfield, now assistant principal for curriculum at Durant, replaces Kenneth Allen, who had held the job since August 1997. In September, Allen was named director of adult and community education for the Hillsborough County School District.

Also Tuesday, the board named two schools scheduled to open in August. The elementary school in the Kings Lake subdivision, just north of Apollo Beach and next to Eisenhower Middle School, will be named for the late Thomas P. Corr, a prominent community leader who helped develop Apollo Beach. The middle school in Ruskin next to Cypress Creek Elementary will be named for Beth Shields, former deputy superintendent for the school district, who retired this summer after four decades in education.
