BELLEAIR BLUFFS - A man handed a teller a threatening note and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash Friday morning in a robbery at the Bank of America, 125 N Indian Rocks Road, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's officials said the robbery took place about 9:28 a.m. and described the robber as a white man with a large build, about 20 to 30 years old, with a one-day growth of beard and a scruffy appearance. He was wearing a red shirt and khaki pants and was last seen running from the bank.

Apartment fire sends man to hospital

LARGO - A 46-year-old man suffered minor smoke inhalation after his apartment caught fire about 5 a.m. Friday, Largo Fire Marshal Mark Jones said. The fire broke out in the rear bedroom of a small apartment attached to the home at 416 Seventh Ave NE. The resident, whose name was not available, was awakened by a smoke detector. Firefighters arrived four minutes after getting the call and had extinguished the main body of the fire eight minutes after that, Jones said. He estimated damage to the apartment at $8,000 to $10,000 and said it was uninhabitable. The man was taken to Largo Medical Center. His condition was not available Friday afternoon. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
