The Pinellas County School Board voted Tuesday to hire a Chicago company to conduct the search for a new superintendent.
The unanimous vote authorizes School Board attorney John Bowen to negotiate a $50,000 contract with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates Ltd.
William J. Attea, the principal manager of the company, promised the School Board last week that the national search would produce a top-notch superintendent who could serve from seven to 15 years. That person will replace Howard Hinesley, who will retire in November 2004.
Attea said the price tag for a new superintendent could be as high as $300,000 in salary and benefits.
