Astros in limbo as Mets court GM Hunsicker

HOUSTON - Astros owner Drayton McLane expects to know this week if he needs to find a new general manager.

Gerry Hunsicker, the current general manager, is being considered for the Mets job. McLane gave permission last week for the sides to talk despite Hunsicker having a year left on his contract.

"Gerry's talking to the Mets and they have promised to get back to me this week," McLane said Wednesday. "We expect to hear something (today) or Friday."

BREWERS: Former Milwaukee star Cecil Cooper will manage the club's Triple-A affiliate again next season. Cooper, 53, made his managerial debut with Indianapolis last season, going 64-78.

ORIOLES: Former second baseman and current Brewers bench coach Rich Dauer interviewed for Baltimore's vacant managerial position. Dauer is the third candidate interviewed by co-general managers Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan, after Hall of Famer Eddie Murray and bench coach Sam Perlozzo.
