If you are feeling moody and conflicted or just want to wail out a rock ballad, note that Staind will perform at the University of South Florida Sun Dome on Saturday. Bald-headed, sweat-shirt-clad lead singer Aaron Lewis favors doleful tunes with hard-driving guitar and strong melodies. The band's latest album is titled Shades of Grey and includes the songs Price to Play, So Far Away and Falling Down. Opening acts are Lo-Pro and Sevendust.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Sun Dome, 4202 E Fowler Ave. Tickets are $27.50, available through Ticketmaster or the Sun Dome box office. Call 974-3002.
Michael Winslow at Side Splitters
A mainstay of the guilty pleasure movie collection, Michael Winslow has appeared in Spaceballs, Gremlins, Back to the Future Part 3, Cheech & Chong's Next Movie and the Police Academy series. The actor and comedian will appear at Side Splitters tonight, Saturday and Sunday. "The Human Sound Machine" is a proficient sound impersonator, mimicking everything from a dog bark to nails on a chalkboard to feet sinking in wet sneakers.
Show times are at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, $12-$14, and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, $8. The club is at 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway. Call 960-1197.
Carrollwood Players By Young People
Don't lose your head watching Ichabod, performed by the Carrollwood Players By Young People. The famous tale of Sleepy Hollow will take the stage starting Saturday. New schoolmaster Ichabod Crane is sweet on the beautiful Katrina, but the cast is thrown for a loop by some pesky spirits and that galavanting headless horseman.
Shows are at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 at the Carrollwood Playhouse, 4333 Gunn Highway. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for ages 18 and under. Group rates are available. Call 265-4000.
Red Elvises
If Siberia and surfing are two things you wouldn't pair up, you haven't seen the Red Elvises. The Russian trio is back for another round at Skipper's Smokehouse on Saturday, flexing their own brand of "Siberian Surf Rock." The band blends traditional Russian sounds, surf music and old-style rockabilly with oversized instruments and far-out stage costumes. The concert will get a jump start from Elvis impersonator Douglas McArthur, taking his cue from over 300 of the King's performances.
The show starts at 8 p.m. at 910 Skipper Road. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Call 971-0666.
