NEW YORK - Pasi Nurminen stopped 29 shots, and New York counterpart Mike Dunham turned aside 30 as the Atlanta Thrashers tied the Rangers 0-0 Thursday night.

It was the first scoreless tie in the five-season history of the Thrashers, who are off to their best start ever at 2-0-2. The four-game unbeaten streak matches a franchise high.

New York (0-2-1) became the last team in the Eastern Conference to earn a point in the standings. But the Rangers haven't scored in 157 minutes, 13 seconds.

Petr Nedved nearly ended it quickly in overtime when he got off a clean shot just 23 seconds in for the Rangers, who held a 6-3 shot advantage in overtime.

AVALANCHE 5, WILD 2: Peter Forsberg notched a goal and an assist and Teemu Selanne scored his first goal in a Colorado uniform as the visiting Avs beat the Wild for the 12th time in 16 regular-season games.

It was the first meeting between the teams since the first round of last season's playoffs, where the upstart Wild eliminated the Avs in seven games.

Forsberg scored the first of three second-period goals for Colorado, which also got goals from John-Michael Liles and Milan Hejduk in the period.

David Aebischer stopped 21 shots for Colorado to send the Wild to its third loss of the season.

BLUE JACKETS 2, BLACKHAWKS 1: Rick Nash had a goal and an assist and Marc Denis stopped 30 shots as Columbus won its third game in a row at Nationwide Arena - the best homestand in the team's four seasons.

Todd Marchant had the other goal and Geoff Sanderson added two assists for the Blue Jackets, whose 3-1-0-0 start also is a team best.

The loss was the third in a row for Chicago, which has lost both of its road games while scoring just one goal.

DEVILS 2, MAPLE LEAFS 2: Sergei Brylin scored with two seconds left in regulation as New Jersey salvaged a tie after raising its Stanley Cup championship banner.

Jay Pandolfo also scored for New Jersey, and Martin Brodeur made 12 saves as the Devils remained unbeaten at 1-0-2.

Nik Antropov and Darcy Tucker scored second-period goals for the Maple Leafs, who came close to stealing a game in which Ed Belfour made 31 saves on a night his team was outshot 33-14.

RED WINGS 3, CANUCKS 2: Ray Whitney broke a tie with 1:06 left and Dominik Hasek made 36 saves for host Detroit, which has won all three of its games.

Whitney's backhander in the slot was his first goal with the Red Wings. He was signed as a free agent from the Blue Jackets during the offseason.

CANADIENS 4, PENGUINS 1: Mike Ribeiro had a goal and two assists, and host Montreal scored three power-play goals to extend its season-opening winning streak to three games. Pittsburgh fell to 0-2-1.

PREDATORS 4, BLUES 1: Jordin Tootoo got his first NHL point and Marek Zidlicky scored a power-play goal and assisted on another for host Nashville. Tootoo, the first person of Inuit descent to play in the league, assisted on Dan Hamhuis' power-play goal at 10:53 of the second period.

OILERS 4, SABRES 1: Ales Hemsky and Raffi Torres had a goal and an assist each as host Edmonton ended a scoring drought that had gone for 1 hour, 45 minutes, 31 seconds. Ty Conklin stopped 31 shots for Edmonton, which had had two straight shutout losses.

FLYERS: Right wing Radovan Somik had arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. A timetable for his return was not determined.

HURRICANES: Goalie Arturs Irbe, a two-time All-Star, was assigned to Johnstown of the East Coast Hockey League.
