Times Staff WriterLooking for something to do? Here's a super calendar, ranging from Dr. Frank-n-Furter to Frankenstein.
If a science fiction musical satire about an alien transvestite named Dr. Frank-n-Furter seems like an intriguing premise, then you're in for a treat.
A live version of the 1975 film the Rocky Horror Picture Show hits the stage Thursday through Nov. 9 at the Gorilla Theatre, 4419 N Hubert Ave. It stars Jennifer Hicks as the demure Janet and Gabriel Leel as the uptight Brad.
Although the film was a flop upon its release, a few devotees persuaded a New York theater to show it at midnight. Thus was born one of the ultimate cult films of all time. The songs are addictive (just try getting The Time Warp or Toucha Toucha Touch Me out of your head), the raunchiness is amusing and the plot line utterly ridiculous.
When the film is screened in movie theaters, it's not unusual to see water guns during the storm scene and rice during the wedding scene. However, during this Gorilla Theatre/Looking Glass theater production outside items are not allowed. Instead, the theater will sell props.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Thursdays; 8 p.m. on Fridays; 8 p.m. and midnight on Saturdays; and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Prices are $20 to $25.
Reservations are required. Call 879-2914.
On Halloween and Nov. 1, Tampa Theatre will host the Rocky Horror Picture Show film version.
