Supercenters by the numbers
- $77-million a year. Annual average sales of a supercenter, including those operated by Wal-Mart, Target and regional chains. That compares to $23-million in sales at a traditional discount store and $8-million at the average neighborhood supermarket.
- $426. Annual sales per square foot at a supercenter, a sign of sales productivity, compared to $257 at a discount store and $330 at a regional mall.
- 40 percent. How many shoppers visit a supercenter at least monthly, up from 25 percent in 1998.
