The Great Escape is definitely not that great.
This game is based on the classic 1963 film starring the late Steve McQueen. It is about a World War II prisoner who rallies other POWs to break out of a notorious Nazi prison camp, then fights the Nazis while trying to escape Germany.
The graphics in the Great Escape are terrible. They are much blockier than they should be for a next-generation console. However, they are not the worst part of this game. The missions are the worst.
Most of the time you progress through the missions purely by trial and error. In other words, you have to mess up just to learn what not to do. Also, it is difficult to tell whether you are hidden from a guard's view. The game controls and camera angles are unwieldy and hard to use.
There are only a few high points, such as a couple of decent fighting and chase sequences. That is not enough to make this an exciting, gotta-play game.
