SPRING HILL - A 41-year-old Spring Hill man was being held without bail Monday after he was charged with sexual battery involving a minor. The Sheriff's Office began looking into allegations against Timothy S. Barkley of 1309 Malone Ave. on Saturday after a woman told detectives that her daughter had come to her crying. According to a sheriff's report, Barkley went into the girl's bedroom early Saturday and offered to perform oral sex on her. When she refused, Barkley offered her money, the report said. Eventually, the girl kicked Barkley off her and told her mother that she had been molested, according to the report. Barkley was charged with one count of sexual battery, a capital felony punishable by up to life in prison. He was being held Monday at the Hernando County Jail.

Police looking for suspect after man shot during fight

BROOKSVILLE - Brooksville police were looking Monday for a man they said shot and wounded another man during a fight on Friday night. Detective Eddie McConnell said the victim, whose name was not released, was shot after he apparently got into a fight with another man at Bacon and Asmara streets about 9:30 p.m. Friday. During the altercation, a gun was discharged, striking the victim in the foot, McConnell said. He did not disclose why the men were fighting or whether the gun was fired on purpose or went off accidentally. The victim was treated at Brooksville Regional Hospital and released. Police said they had a suspect in the case but would not release the man's name.

Correction

David A. Mediate recently filed a lawsuit against Tracy L. Bennett. Bennett's last name was reported incorrectly in Sunday's News of Record listings. Incorrect information was supplied by the clerk of court's office.
