Twice as entertaining? Not likely

Scary Movie 3 marks the big-screen debut of the sexy Coors Light twins, who are as beloved by some guys as hanging with their friends, burritos at 4 a.m. and parties that never end (if you believe the jingle).

Their cameos in Scary Movie 3 spawned a marketing tie-in rarely seen: An established product hands over 30 expensive seconds of air time almost entirely to a studio's film clips.

Let's hope Scary Movie 3 will be entertaining, but it doesn't look promising. The first of the Scary Movies was okay, steered by the Wayans brothers' def comedy sensibilities in a satirical, Scream sort of way. The second installment was an abomination, a graphic parade of phallic gags and elementary slasher film references that suggested the creative well had quickly run dry.

Out with the Wayanses and in with another brother. The franchise has been handed over to David Zucker, who alongside his sibling Jerry (plus Jim Abrahams) defined scattershot comedy with Airplane! and the Naked Gun series. But David Zucker's stock as a director plummeted in recent years when the only movies he could manage were BASEketball and this year's My Boss's Daughter, not exactly ringing endorsements.

Scary Movie 3 was screened too late for Weekend, so see Friday's page 2B for a review. Until then, the Coors commercials - or was that an actual preview I saw? - promise spoofs of the Matrix flicks, The Ring, Signs, maybe even a chainsaw or two. The cast includes familiar Zucker actors doing favors for a friend (if not their careers) like Leslie Nielsen and Charlie Sheen. And the twins.
