NFL picks

By ROGER MILLS, Times Staff Writer
Published October 26, 2003

Cowboys (5-1) at Bucs (3-3)

Depleted roster. Return of Bill Parcells. No.1-ranked defense in town. How could the Bucs win this game? Through veteran savvy and a Martin Gramatica field goal.

Mills pick: Bucs 21, Cowboys 20

Titans (5-2) at Jaguars (1-5)

Steve McNair and the rest of the Titans are beginning to look very similar to the team that made it to the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Mills pick: Titans 24, Jaguars 21

Lions (1-5) at Bears (1-5)

Let me get this straight, the Bears are starting Chris Chandler? Geez, how desperate are things. Whatever.

Mills pick: Lions 30, Bears 10

Broncos (5-2) at Ravens (3-3)

Regardless of how ingenious Mike Shanahan is, Denver's trying to play with their third starting quarterback this season. Not against the Ravens.

Mills pick: Ravens 21, Broncos 20

Rams (4-2) at Steelers (2-4)

Don't look now, but the greatest show on turf is getting back its snap. Problem is, the Steelers are desperate for a win.

Mills pick: Steelers 34, Rams 30

Seahawks (5-1) at Bengals (2-4)

The Bengals sustain some momentum from their 34-26 win over the Ravens last week. But it won't be enough to thwart the Seahawks.

Mills pick: Seahawks 34, Bengals 13

Browns (3-4) at Patriots (5-2)

Slowly, the Patriots have reasserted themselves as one of the better teams in the AFC and should have no problem with either Tim Couch or Kelly Holcomb.

Mills pick: Patriots 17, Browns 15

Panthers (5-1) at Saints (3-4)

Could the Panthers' lustre be wearing off at a time when the Saints' confidence is soaring? That could hurt.

Mills pick: Saints 27, Panthers 24

Giants (2-4) at Vikings (5-0)

It's not enough that Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss are at the top of their games, but now the Vikings are playing defense?

Mills pick: Vikings 28, Giants 17

49ers (3-4) at Cardinals (1-5)

The 49ers certainly should be lifted after last week's performance against the Bucs. And the Cardinals aren't likely to get in their way.

Mills pick: 49ers 27, Cardinals 10

Texans (2-4) at Colts (5-1)

The Colts are 2-0 overall against the Texans and the second-year team has yet to score a touchdown against Indianapolis.

Mills pick: Colts 33, Texans 17

Jets (2-4) at Eagles (3-3)

The Jets are lifted by two straight wins and talk of QB Chad Pennington's return. But none of that will impress the Eagles.

Mills pick: Eagles 20, Jets 18

Bills (4-3) at Chiefs (7-0)

After holding off the Raiders on Monday, the Chiefs face one of their toughest tests yet. But they're home and that means 8-0.

Mills pick: Chiefs 17, Bills 9
