Your Turn: Offshore race coverage appreciated
Letters to the Editor

I would like to commend the Times for its coverage of the APBA offshore races. Not all of us are NASCAR fans. Especially when you consider viewing the offshore races is virtually free to the public. I talked to a number of people during the races, and they mentioned the coverage in the Times vs. the coverage in the Tribune. The Times coverage was good, while the Tribune just devoted a few inches to the event.
Another reason why I'm a subscriber to the Times and have turned down frequent offers from the Tribune.

Don't blame Cubs fan for loss
Not since the infamous O.J. debacle has such a case of gross injustice befouled the air from coast to coast. Thanks to a large group of disgruntled and misguided Cubs fans, aided and abetted by a voracious media, a perfectly innocent human being has been figuratively roasted alive and left for dead.
I saw the supposedly heinous act on TV. The fan's eyes were riveted on the flight of the ball, as were several others who reached for it. Since the ball was an inch or two within the confines of the stands and not on the field, it was perfectly within the right of any fan to reach for it. The outfielder was leaping from below, momentarily invisible to those above.
That one solitary incident was not the main factor in the Cubs losing the series. An error, ringing base hits and sloppy relief pitching were the primary factors, along with the Cubs' collapse the following day.
Those in the know, Cubs and Marlins management and players, recognize the blame heaped on this young man as a gross injustice. Others, astute fans included, will agree.
