PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald caught a touchdown for the 13th consecutive game Saturday, tying the NCAA record set last season by Michigan State's Charles Rogers.
Running a fade route, Fitzgerald stumbled momentarily but recovered to catch a 3-yarder from Rod Rutherford midway through the first quarter against Syracuse.
The TD catch was Fitzgerald's 14th in seven games this season, breaking the Big East single-season record of 13 by Pitt's Terry Murphy in 1997. Fitzgerald, a sophomore, has caught 23 TDs during his 13-game streak. He needs two touchdown catches to tie Julius Dawkins' single-season school record of 16, set as Dan Marino threw for 37 touchdowns in 1981.
Gagliardi notches win No.407COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - St. John's coach John Gagliardi got his 407th career win as the Johnnies beat Concordia (Moorhead) 24-12. Gagliardi is one victory from tying Eddie Robinson's all-time collegiate win record and two from becoming the winningest coach in college football. Gagliardi, 76, is in his 55th season as coach and 51st at St. John's. He has a 407-114-11 career record at St. John's and Carroll College.
Also, St. John's Blake Elliott tied a Division III record with a catch in his 40th consecutive game. He finished with 10 catches for 132 yards.
ALABAMA: Offensive tackle Wesley Britt broke his left leg in the first quarter against Tennessee. Britt, a junior preseason All-SEC pick, started 34 games for the Crimson Tide. He is on the watch list for the Lombardi Award given to the nation's top lineman.
ARKANSAS: Running back Cedric Cobbs did not play against Mississippi because of a hamstring injury. Cobbs is the SEC's leading rusher, averaging 121 yards. De'Arrius Howard, the Razorbacks' No.2 tailback, had an ankle injury, giving sophomore Kyle Dickerson the start.
GEORGIA: All-America defensive end David Pollack left after UAB's second offensive series with a leg contusion. Coach Mark Richt said he won't know until today if the injury is serious enough to keep Pollack out of Saturday's game against Florida. Linebacker Arnold Harrison (ankle) and cornerback Decory Bryant (neck) were hurt on the opening kickoff of the second half and didn't return. Offensive guard Bartley Miller (shoulder), defensive tackle Darrius Swain (ankle) and linebacker Tony Taylor (ankle) also went out in the third quarter.
JACKSONVILLE: Emmett Hunter, who had a 146 yards against Morehead State, set a school single-season rushing record with 1,158 yards, topping the 2001 mark of 1,089 by Brent Alexander.
KANSAS: The career of senior quarterback Bill Whittemore might be over, coach Mark Mangino said. Whittemore left early against Kansas State with a hurt shoulder, but Mangino refused to specify the injury.
KANSAS STATE: Darren Sproles broke the school rushing record. His 98 yards gave him 2,619, 82 more than Eric Hickson, set from 1994 to 1997.
KENTUCKY: Jared Lorenzen's 75th touchdown pass broke the school record set by Tim Couch.
N.C. STATE: Phillip Rivers' three TD passes against Duke gave him 82 for his career. The senior broke the ACC mark of 79 set by Florida State's Chris Weinke from 1997 to 2000.
