Xpress, the Coolest Section of the St. Petersburg Times, is the home for features, news and views of interest to young readers. Most of the work in Xpress, which appears on Mondays in Floridian, is produced by the Times' X-Team. The team of journalists ages 9-17 from around the Tampa Bay area is selected every year at the end of the school year to serve during the following school term. The current team of 12 was chosen out of 150 applicants. Watch for X-Team application forms in Xpress during the month of May.

This month we left the theme for Xpressions up to you, and we were not disappointed. Entries run from butterflies with violet wings to a timid puppy with a mohawk. As you wander through the page, search for the tiger, the teacher and the Titanic. And if you want to see your work displayed here, see the instructions below.

Xpressions, our monthly showcase for the art, writing and photography of students through the 12th grade, is looking for your work! Xpressions appears the last Monday of each month inside Floridian.
Please read the following instructions before submitting your work, which must be based on the designated themes.
NOVEMBER: I AM . . . - This theme deals with YOU! Tell us what makes you unique in words, photos or art. We're especially fond of poetry that begins with "I Am . . ." Deadline: Postmark Nov. 5.
DECEMBER: OPEN THEME - Send us your creative work (art, words or photography) depicting the topic of your choice. Deadline: Postmark Dec. 10.
JANUARY: A SPECIAL PLACE - This theme was inspired by St. Paul's School in Clearwater. Describe in words, photos or art a place that holds a special place in your heart. It can be your grandmother's kitchen, a tree house or a cottage in the woods. Or maybe it's your back yard. Deadline: Postmark Jan. 9.
Artwork must be on white, unlined paper, with the medium stated on the back (oil, pastel, crayon, etc.). Be sure to include your NAME, AGE, NAME OF SCHOOL and GRADE, YOUR ADDRESS, ZIP CODE, PHONE NUMBER WITH AREA CODE AND YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS. YOUR WORK WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION.
IMPORTANT: Stories must be no longer than 150 words. We can return only artwork and only if you indicate that you want it back.
