SPRING HILL - A 43-year-old Spring Hill man was being held without bail after he was accused of choking his fiancee's son during a drunken stupor, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident occurred about 5 p.m. Oct. 23 after Marc Bennett woke up from a nap and told his girlfriend's 15-year-old son to finish his homework, a sheriff's report said.
According to the report, the teen, whose name is being withheld by the Sheriff's Office because of his age, told Bennett that his mother was going to help him when she returned home from work. At that time, Bennett, who reportedly had been drinking, became angry, picked up a television remote control and threw it at the teen, the report said.
The report said Bennett then followed the teen into his bedroom, where he slapped him several times, stuffed his face into the mattress and grabbed him with both hands and squeezed his neck.
The teen suffered minor bruises to his mouth and face, the sheriff's report said. He did not need medical attention.
Bennett told sheriff's deputies he had slapped the teen and was taken into custody Friday. He is charged with felony child abuse. He was being held at Hernando County Jail without bail.
