A consistent Kizer helps the Panthers advance

Without its No. 2 player, Lecanto moves on to its fourth straight region match.

OCALA - Anne Kizer played to her potential Tuesday in the Class 2A, District 3 tournament, and that means Lecanto heads back to regions

Kizer was medalist after shooting 80 to help the Panthers advance for the fourth consecutive season.

"She was her consistent self," Lecanto coach Doug Warren said. "She can go out and do that every time that she plays."

The Panthers finished with a combined 393, 31 behind Gainesville Buchholz, which won its fourth straight district title.

"We've been real fortunate and had some good girls come through here," said Bobcats coach Bubba McGowan, whose team has won region titles two of the past three seasons.

Kizer, Kari Amundson (89), Carly Lewis (90) and Carla Savage (134) posted scores for the Panthers, who played without their normal No. 2 player, Christina Saia. Of the four whose scores counted, only Kizer had played an 18-hole tournament on the high school level.

"Last year we had a lot of seniors, but most of the girls got a lot of time playing varsity matches," Warren said. "They play NSJGA events also, so the pressure was nothing new to them."

Lecanto plays Monday at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Gainesville in the Class 2A-Region 2 event.

Central and Springstead failed to advance. Ocala Forest and Ocala Vanguard were the other teams besides Lecanto and Buchholz to advance.

Lake Weir freshman Cassie Ryals finished with 81 to lead the four individuals not on advancing teams to qualify for regions.
