Hot Ticket: Enjoy the spirit of Florida past

Chinsegut Nature Center will be filled on Saturday with the activities that filled daily life in 1800s Florida: butter churning, ropemaking, cow milking, turkey calling, soapmaking and more.

"This gives people a chance to see a lot of arts that are getting lost in the shuffle of day-to-day life," organizer Kristin Wood said last year.

Jared McCullers and Stan Kirkland used a 6-foot crosscut saw as Monroe Wilson held the log steady at the 2001 Pioneer Day.

This year's Pioneer Day festival - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday - also features such fun activities as stilt-walking and skillet-throwing. The Chinsegut Nature Center is at 23212 Lake Lindsay Road (CR 476), about 7 miles north of Brooksville. (352) 754-6722.
