Family brought her to Florida and it's family that brought her to live in this part of the state.

I was born in Tennessee in 1938, but moved to Bradenton when I was 2. When asked "Where are you from?," I automatically answer,"Florida.'
I lived in Manatee County until 1976, when my family moved to Key West for my husband's job. It was a great small town atmosphere in which to raise kids. It was a great time in my life. I think my children treasure their time there.
I live in FishHawk Ranch now, because my youngest daughter and her family chose to live in this area again. My daughter was married at St. Andrews Methodist Church on Bloomingdale Avenue, after she and her husband graduated from Florida State University.
My son-in-law's job promotions took them to other states, but they eventually were able to come home to Florida and this area. I wanted to be near my grandchildren, so naturally I moved here also. I lost my parents at an early age, so family is very important to me.
I keep active by volunteering at Brandon Regional Hospital, where I work in the gift shop. I also belong to several organizations such as the Red Hat Society, where women 50 and over meet for lunch once a month to interact.
I belong to Laureat Epsilon Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, which is a social and cultural organization. I belong to the Newcomers Club that meets once a month at Center Place. I have joined Shapes Fitness Center, which is a great place for fun and fitness. I also bowl once a week with the Morning Glories League at Oakfield Lanes.
My grandchildren attend Bevis Elementary, which is an outstanding school. My oldest grandson plays football for the Pinecrest Pilots.
Living in FishHawk Ranch has definitely renewed my faith in family. It is so good to see families rollerblading, bicycling and jogging together. Kids are everywhere, playing football, shooting baskets or skateboarding on their streets. It is really a family oriented community. There are activities planned throughout the year for community participation.
