The self-anointed "Chosen One" didn't start the season strongly. Winslow, 6 feet 5 and 252 pounds, routinely faced double and triple coverage, and quarterback Brock Berlin's inexperience didn't help. But the junior tight end has been huge the past month. He has had 21 catches for 253 yards in wins over West Virginia, Florida State and Temple. His 18-yard acrobatic reception on fourth and 13 against West Virginia kept the Hurricanes' winning drive alive.
Winslow has a team-leading 36 catches for 391 yards on the season with 10.9 yards per catch. If UM is to win in Blacksburg, Winslow likely will have to come up big again.
Receiver Roscoe Parrish's return to the lineup should take some attention away from Winslow and open things in the middle. If Berlin has time and can get the ball to Winslow, Miami has an excellent chance of exploiting some weaknesses in the Hokies defense.
VIRGINIA TECH: BRYAN RANDALL
Last season, Randall set a Hokies record for completion percentage by connecting on 63.7 percent. A year later, nothing has changed.
There was plenty of talk of a quarterback battle between Randall and talented redshirt freshman Marcus Vick, brother of ex-Hokies and current Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick, when the season started, but it never materialized. Randall opened the season by hitting 22 of 28 passes for 278 yards and three TDs against Central Florida.
He has completed 86 of 133 passes for 1,042 yards with nine TDs and six interceptions. He also has rushed for 288 yards and three scores, including runs of 47 and 75 yards.
Miami has struggled with mobile quarterbacks, so Randall could present problems.
