Parents of man electrocuted say inquiry impeded

TAMPA - The parents of a Hillsborough school district employee who was electrocuted in September have filed a complaint against the district, claiming officials have hindered the family's investigation into the incident.

Patrick Alfonso, 29, was killed Sept. 2 as he replaced a faulty transformer that supplied electricity inside the media center of Shaw Elementary on 15th Street in North Tampa. Alfonso was taken to University Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The school district conducted an investigation and issued an accident report, but Alfonso's parents are conducting their own investigation. Wednesday's complaint claims district officials issued "an express or implied gag order on any and all of its employees concerning the facts and circumstances surrounding" the case.

The parents, Joseph and Patricia, are asking a judge to order the school district to cooperate by "making any and all witnesses" available "at a mutually convenient time" to provide testimony.
