I was given a pin commemorating the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, and honoring the New York Police Department. Only after turning it over, was I shocked and dismayed at the stamping of where it was manufactured: China.
There is an overwhelming lack of follow-through when it comes to the American people. In other words, put your money where your mouth is. We talk about patriotism and wave our flags and support our president and our troops. But when it comes to the products we use to symbolize these, we go for the cheapest and quickest products we can get. There used to be an old saying, "Buy American." Perhaps that should be brought back into the forefront.
So there you have it, a symbol of a tragedy, happening on American soil, made in a Communist country. There should be some control over uniforms, flags and other patriotic emblems and where they are produced. Let's not to send our money to a country that doesn't believe in our values, morals or political system.
This was probably an oversight, but it's important that we be sensitive to these issues, because they reflect a lack of support for our government and the people of the United States of America.
