Report: Reds player had limbs bound

By Wire services
Published November 9, 2003

MESA, Ariz. - Reds outfielder Dernell Stenson was shot execution style, his hands and feet bound, Arizona's East Valley Tribune reported.

Stenson's hands were bound with plastic handcuffs and his feet were tied together with shoelaces, the newspaper reported.

Stenson, who had been playing in the Arizona Fall League, was found dead Wednesday in the Phoenix suburb of Chandler. He had been shot and run over and apparently dragged by his SUV.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the case.

Reginald Riddle, 19, admitted involvement in the incident after he was arrested Thursday night, according to court records. He is being held on a $500,000 cash bond for homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping and burglary. He has not been formally charged.

His half-brother, Kevin Riddle, 43, was arrested Wednesday after police spotted him driving Stenson's SUV. He remains in custody on a $10,080 bond and was charged Friday with possession of stolen property.

Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of David Griffith, a 20-year-old transient suspected in the death. Police consider him armed and dangerous.

Griffith's connection to the Riddle brothers and Stenson is unclear.
