Crash leaves one dead, another in Tampa hospital

LAND O'LAKES - One person was killed and one was injured late Wednesday in a two-car head-on collision in central Pasco County.

The accident occurred about 7:25 p.m. on U.S. 41, just north of State Road 52, when a northbound vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.

One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

The names of the two drivers were not available.

The accident closed both lanes of U.S. 41 until about 9:30 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
