The Riverview senior's timing isn't right on the course, but she reaches her goal of improvement.

PORT ST. LUCIE - Riverview senior Lindsey Bergeon didn't have time to reflect on her ninth-place Class 2A finish after Wednesday's round.

After climbing from 13th place after Tuesday's opening round, she was too busy signing paperwork her future college coach had waiting when she came off the course.

Bergeon, who orally committed to Florida Southern over the summer, said she wasn't concerned where she placed anyway. She finished 10 shots behind winner Brittany Lincicome of Seminole, who charged with 68 after an opening 72 to win by three over Christina Jones (68-75) of Stuart Martin County.

"My goal was just to improve," Bergeon said. "I haven't been hitting solid all week, so this was bad timing (for the state tournament)."

Bergeon did improve from Tuesday's round of 77, in which she had two double bogeys. On Wednesday she bogeyed the first hole and parred the next 17 for 73.

The Plant girls improved slightly from their first round, but it wasn't enough to pull them out of 11th place. Cynthia LaCrosse (77) and Bianca Urso (104) each shaved five strokes off their first-day scores, and the Panthers finished with 701, 115 shots behind winner Stuart Martin County (586). Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (649) was second.

Berkeley Prep finished in 14th with 807. Sydney Riley improved to lead the Bucs with 84, 10 strokes better than her previous day's performance. Dana Turker shot 89.

Boca Raton St. Andrews won the Class A title with 595 with the help of Morgan Pressel and Lauren Mielbrecht, who each shot 4-under 68. Orlando Lake Highland Prep was runner-up at 649.
