ORLANDO - The Memphis Grizzlies gave up a season-high 36 points to Tracy McGrady, but only two in the fourth quarter. That was one of the keys Wednesday night as Memphis handed the Magic its seventh consecutive loss, 107-97.
Orlando (1-7) is off to the worst start in franchise history, losing six consecutive home games.
Forwards Pau Gasol and James Posey had 28 and 24 points, respectively, in leading Memphis to its second road win. The Grizzlies, who beat the Lakers on Monday night, upped their record to 4-4 - matching the best start in franchise history.
Memphis used its superior front court to dominate the game and closed it out with a 15-0 run, featuring two 3-pointers by Posey and one by Jay Williams.
It was Posey's defense against McGrady in the final quarter that settled the outcome.
McGrady scored with 6:42 remaining, giving the Magic its last lead at 89-87. But it was his only basket of the period, and he limped off in the final seconds with a strained tendon in his right ankle.
"I think we're playing better now, and I still believe in this team," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "But we're two things away from being a good team, mental toughness and closing out quarters."
HEAT 88, CAVALIERS 83: Eddie Jones scored 25 and Lamar Odom added 14 and 10 assists, helping host Miami become the final NBA team to break into the win column.
Heralded rookie LeBron James had 18 on 6-of-15 shooting for Cleveland, which lost its 26th straight road game since February and failed in its bid for the franchise's first three-game winning streak since April 2002.
The Heat lost its first seven games, the franchise's worst start since going 0-17 to open its inaugural season of 1988-89. It missed its last five field goal attempts against Cleveland, giving the Cavaliers plenty of chances to pull off a late rally.
But James was stifled on three key possessions, first committing an offensive foul, then getting a shot blocked, then failing to handle a pass with 18.5 seconds left for Cleveland's eighth turnover of the final quarter.
SPURS 85, NETS 71: Much like the NBA Finals, host New Jersey had no answer for Tim Duncan - even with Jason Kidd producing a triple-double.
Duncan had a season-high 31 points and 12 rebounds for defending champion San Antonio in the first meeting between the teams since the championship round.
Tony Parker added 17 points in just his second game of the season as the Spurs won their second straight game since Duncan and Parker returned to the lineup.
Kidd, who spurned a free-agent offer from the Spurs in the offseason, had 14 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds for his second triple-double of the season and the 52nd of his career.
BULLS 89, CELTICS 82: Jalen Rose scored 20 and Eddy Curry added 16 and 14 rebounds as Chicago notched its third road victory, matching the total from last season.
The Bulls never led by more than seven points in the second half until Jamal Crawford capped an 11-2 run with a jumper and a 3-pointer that gave the Bulls a 76-65 lead with 9:31 left.
The Celtics responded with a 13-4 spurt, and Mike James made his sixth 3-pointer of the night with 4:12 left to pull Boston to 80-78. But Paul Pierce missed a fadeaway jumper, and the Bulls pulled away by going 9-of-12 on free throws down the stretch.
SONICS 104, BUCKS 99: Rashard Lewis had 31 points and nine rebounds as Seattle improved to 3-0 on the road.
Vladimir Radmanovic added 22 points and eight rebounds, and Ronald Murray followed up his career-high 29-point effort Tuesday with 20 points.
Michael Redd and Toni Kukoc each had 20 points for Milwaukee.
HORNETS 96, JAZZ 89: Baron Davis had 23 points and nine assists, helping host New Orleans snap a two-game losing skid.
David Wesley scored 17 and Steve Smith came off the bench to add 15 points in 20 minutes.
Matt Harpring scored 20 to lead Utah, which dropped to 0-4 on the road. The Jazz shot 1-of-12 on 3-pointers.
HAWKS 99, SUNS 94: Dion Glover scored 13 of his 23 in the fourth quarter to help Atlanta to its first win in Phoenix in nearly 12 years.
Stephen Jackson had 18, Jason Terry 17 and Shareef Abdur-Rahim 16 for the Hawks, whose last road victory against the Suns came on Nov. 15, 1991. Atlanta had lost 16 of its last 22 games overall against the Suns.
Stephon Marbury and Shawn Marion scored 22 apiece for the Suns, whose modest two-game winning streak was snapped.
WARRIORS 87, PISTONS 85 (OT): Calbert Cheaney hit two big shots in overtime while scoring a season-high 24 as Golden State got its fourth straight home victory over Detroit.
Cliff Robinson helped put away his former teammates, hitting a jumper with 43 seconds left and playing solid defense as the Warriors held Detroit to 2-of-8 shooting in overtime.
LAKERS 94, RAPTORS 79: Shaquille O'Neal had 23 points and 14 rebounds as Los Angeles kept Toronto winless on the road. The Lakers got 17 points from Karl Malone and 16 from Gary Payton to end a two-game losing streak.
