Medical Reserve Corps gets portable offices

By Times Staff Writer

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Pasco County Health Department has received a $50,000 state grant for its Medical Reserve Corps, a group of doctors, nurses and others willing to provide health care in the event of a local disaster.

The money will buy two trailers and four tents that could become makeshift doctors' offices in an emergency, said Pat Gardner, emergency preparations coordinator for the health department. The department used a similar grant last year to buy protective gear and other equipment for the Medical Reserve Corps, he said.

"It can be used for any type of event, not just a terrorist event," Gardner said. "It could be hurricane, tornado, whatever we might face."
