Bottom line

Don't let anyone say the Browns' decision to release receiver Kevin Johnson was a money thing. As a result of a contract extension signed in August 2002, the Browns paid Johnson $5.075-million in '02 and '03 in salaries and bonuses. That's a lot of money to kick to the curb. On top of that, Johnson will count $2.1-million in dead money on the Browns cap in 2004.
