TAMPA - The Regional Burn Center at Tampa General Hospital has been nationally certified by two medical groups.

The American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons have granted verification to the center. Tampa General's center is one of 41 centers, out of 129 in the country, to gain such status, the hospital said Thursday.

The status could help the center gain grants or other funding. It was granted after a detailed application, evaluation and an inspection. The hospital must reapply after three years.
