Open or closed? Full staff or skeletal crew?
Tampa Bay area companies pondered those eternal workplace questions and came up with a variety of answers in their plans for Friday, when many employees would like to stretch their day off for Thanksgiving into a four-day weekend.
While some of Raymond James' employees will use vacation time to create a four-day weekend, it will be business as usual for the most part at the St. Petersburg brokerage firm.
"A few managers of noncritical personnel might let employees leave when the market closes," spokesman Michael White said. "The market closes early that Friday."
At Tech Data Corp., many employees will be able to take advantage of a paid "floating holiday" on Friday. Some frontline staff, including sales and customer service representatives, have to show up at the Clearwater headquarters of the tech equipment distributor. Others get to join the hordes taking to the highways or stay at home and work on turkey leftovers.
"We encourage them to spend time with their families," spokeswoman Lynette Bohanan said. "We normally ask for volunteers, and we're able to manage it that way."
