Sophomore guard James Holmes had eight points and four rebounds in his USF debut. He committed USF's first five fouls of the second half to foul out. ... USF is the second of three straight vs. Conference USA teams for Valparaiso, which lost 75-70 Saturday to Marquette (despite making 11 3-pointers, including 4 of 7 by Roberto Nieves) and hosts Cincinnati on Tuesday. ... The Crusaders, picked second in the Mid-Continent Conference by the Sporting News, were 20-11 in 2002-03 under Scott Drew, who left after one season for Baylor. His father, Homer, who coached Valparaiso the previous 14 seasons, replaced him.

James, who led Hollywood South Broward to the state title over Clearwater in 2002, had a career-high 37 in Sunday's 90-61 win over Eastern Kentucky. ...
