BROOKSVILLE - Former Fox Chapel Middle School teacher and athletic director Christopher H. Wilson will defend his teaching certificate before an administrative judge in late January.

Little has been heard of Wilson, 33, since he was suspended without pay by the school district in May after Florida Education Commissioner Jim Horne issued a finding of probable cause that Wilson was guilty of "gross immorality or an act involving moral turpitude."

The district fired him after his certificate expired in June, but there had been only speculation about what had happened to his case at the state level. Personnel director Barbara Kidder guessed that Wilson was planning to fight for the right to continue teaching, because she hadn't received any settlement information in the intervening months.

It wasn't until this month that a hearing date of Jan. 28 was scheduled and a judge assigned.

Horne has alleged that Wilson broke three laws and violated 10 sections of the Florida Administrative Code between 1999 and 2001. Wilson was accused of sexually harassing at least one female student and a female teacher and of threatening other teachers on the Fox Chapel staff.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office investigated some of the same complaints in 2001 and found no evidence to support criminal charges. Next year, administrative Judge C.C. Adams will hear the evidence to determine whether Wilson should keep his teaching license.

Lawyers for both sides jointly asked Adams for three days to present the case.

Several students came to Wilson's defense after he was removed from school in May. But neither Wilson nor his lawyer, George Angeliadis, has made any public comment except to deny guilt and pledge a vigorous defense.

Angeliadis was not available for comment. Wilson had no listed phone numbers.
