Florida boy with leukemia gets wish for snow

FARGO, N.D. - A 6-year-old Florida boy who is battling leukemia is getting his wish to visit his sister here and to see snow.

Snowflakes were falling on Thanksgiving when Artie Riley, of Hollywood, Fla., landed at the Fargo airport to begin a four-day visit that was to include attending a hockey game, riding a tractor and feeding bison.

The trip was made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

Riley's sister, Brandi Boechler, lives with her daughter in Fargo. She said her brother will experience a world much different than the one he lives in.

"All they have is beaches and palm trees and lights," she said. "This is the anti-Florida."

Artie, who was diagnosed with leukemia in August and is undergoing chemotherapy, quickly became an expert on snow.

"Ten thousand," he said, when asked how many snowflakes it takes to make a snowball.
