season wins since 1980.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Brad Smith ran for 195 yards and two long touchdowns and Zack Abron set the school career rushing record and ran for a score in Missouri's 45-7 victory against Iowa State on Saturday.
Missouri went 6-0 at Faurot Field, the school's first unbeaten season at home since 1974. The Tigers, who ended a four-game losing streak against Iowa State, have eight regular-season wins for the first time since 1980 with a bowl game left.
Smith, a sophomore who had touchdown runs of 19 and 61 yards, has a chance to become the first player in NCAA history to throw for 2,000 yards and run for 1,000 in two seasons. He has a team-leading 1,310 yards rushing and passed for 108 yards to give him 1,822.
Stevie Hicks had 123 yards on 28 carries, his first 100-yard game, for the Cyclones, who started the season 2-0 but lost their final 10 games.
Iowa State quarterback Waye Terry was hospitalized with an apparent head or neck injury after being injured in the third quarter but had feeling in his extremities.
"He's got feeling back in his hands and feet, and that's the best news coming out of (Saturday)," coach Dan McCarney said. "He had tingling and numbness in all of his extremities, and fortunately, all of it is back now."
The junior fumbled the snap on a fourth-and-1 play and was hit from a couple of directions while trying to retrieve the ball, with his head taking the brunt of Jason Simpson's shoulder. The game was stopped for several minutes while medical personnel attended to Terry.
He left the field still wearing his helmet, which was strapped to the gurney.
McCarney said Terry might be kept at University Hospital overnight for tests.
Terry was 8-for-13 for 107 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 24 yards on 11 carries.
Missouri put Iowa State away after a slow start.
Marcus James, who set a school career mark for return yards, had a 36-yard punt return to set up Smith's 19-yard run with 3:48 left in the first half.
Iowa State called timeout late in the first half when Missouri was deep in its territory and appeared content to run out the clock.
But it backfired.
On second and 19, Smith ran for 13 and 7 yards. Then Abron, on fourth and 2, ran for a 17-yard score to make it 14-0 with 33 seconds left.
Iowa State cut the gap to seven when Lane Danielsen got behind the defense for a 62-yard touchdown catch with two seconds left.
But Mike Matheny made a 44-yard field goal to make it 17-7 in the third. Missouri took a 10-point lead only 19 seconds later. Atiyyah Ellison stripped Terry, and Xzavie Jackson returned the fumble 18 yards.
Damien Nash, who had a 61-yard touchdown run in the fourth, then scored on a 4-yard run.
Abron had 46 yards on 11 carries and has 3,061 yards, surpassing the record of 3,027 set by Brock Olivo from 1994-97.
Earlier in the season, he broke the scoring and touchdown records held by Corby Jones, also from 1995-98.
