Second-half surge rescues Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - Sharrod Ford had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Clemson to an 84-77 victory against Wofford on Saturday.

Ford scored eight during a 17-2 run that gave the Tigers a 66-61 lead with 6:44 left in the game. Clemson trailed 59-49 early in the second half.

Wofford's Greg Taylor hit a 3-pointer to cut the Clemson lead to 75-72 with 2:30 remaining. But Clemson's Olu Babalola scored, then made a free throw to push the Tigers' lead back to 78-72 with 1:52 left.

The Tigers closed the game by making 6 of 8 free throws in the final 43.2 seconds.

Wofford led 41-37 at the half.

Babalola had 17 points, Vernon Hamilton 15, Chris Hobbs 13 and Chey Christie 10 for the Tigers. Hobbs also had 12 rebounds, eight off the offensive glass.

Justin Stephens led Wofford with 20 points. Adrien Borders scored 17 and Howard Wilkerson 11 for the Terriers. Clemson shot 53 percent from the field while holding Wofford to 39 percent.

MARYLAND 87, HOFSTRA 72: Nik Caner-Medley scored 19 and the host Terrapins made 31 free throws against the foul-plagued Pride.

Maryland had five players in double figures, including Jamar Smith, who had 11 points and 10 rebounds, his third double double.
