NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Jonathan Modica's fast start has a lot to do with Arkansas improving to 3-0 for the first time since 1998.

The sophomore guard led the Razorbacks in scoring for the third consecutive game with 23 points in an 85-65 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday, and he's making his shots count.

In averaging 23 points, he's shooting 72 percent from the field (26-of-36) and 92 percent from the line (12-of-13).

"I'm just trying to take decent shots," said Modica, who made 10 of 13. "I'm not doing anything too different. Last year I took a lot of 3s, and now I'm trying to drive to create open shots."

Arkansas coach Stan Heath said Modica is more comfortable this season than last, when he led the Razorbacks with 11.5 points per game.

"He's really getting into a flow," Heath said. "He has a knack for scoring in a lot of different ways. (Saturday), you mostly saw him attack the basket and mostly get things done inside.

"He's been the pillar so far as we start the season, and we need that."

FIU 81, N. FLA. 72: Carlos Morban had 23 points and six assists for the the host Golden Panthers against the Division II Ospreys. Junior Matias added 20 points and Marcus Robinson 17 for Florida International, which forced 31 turnovers.

ECKERD 80, ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC ST. 73: Sharrod McCree had 19 points, including 3 3-pointers, as the host Tritons dropped the Pirates to 5-1 at the Neader Group Classic.
