UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The Flyers would love to see November go on and on. The Islanders can't wait for this suddenly long month to end.
John LeClair had a goal and an assist Saturday during a five-goal second period, lifting Philadelphia to a 5-1 victory and stretching its unbeaten streak to 12.
LeClair had a power-play goal 3:47 into the second to tie it at 1 and start the barrage. Mark Recchi put Philadelphia in front 1:50 later, and Donald Brashear, Simon Gagne and Justin Williams followed to send the Islanders to their fifth consecutive loss.
The Flyers, 10-0-2 since a loss Oct. 30 at New Jersey, were led by their power play.
"We feel very, very confident, there's no question," Flyers forward Jeremy Roenick said. "We don't get all nervous when a goal is scored against us. We get composed and come right back."
New York led 1-0 on Janne Niinimaa's power-play goal with 6:01 left in the first. It was its first power-play goal in 27 chances.
"If every guy gives 110 percent we can win hockey games," Islanders forward Jason Blake said. "And that's not the case right now."
RED WINGS 2, BLUES 1: Chris Chelios became the 11th defenseman to record 900 points, and Boyd Devereaux scored with 2:23 left for visiting Detroit. Devereaux scored the winner from the slot, burying a centering pass from Mathieu Dandenault. Detroit trailed 1-0 late in the second when Chelios took a shot from the right point that was blocked by Dallas Drake. Brett Hull picked up the rebound and beat goalie Chris Osgood. The assist was Chelios' 723rd.
CAPITALS 5, BLUE JACKETS 3: Peter Bondra had three goals for visiting Washington and moved into fourth on the career scoring list for European-born players. Bondra, from Ukraine, had his 19th hat trick. He broke a tie with Toronto's Alexander Mogilny and pushed his total to 461. The surge came after coach Bruce Cassidy moved Bondra up to the No.1 line of Robert Lang and Jaromir Jagr. "Coach gave me a chance to play on the top line," said Bondra, 35. "Obviously, those two guys are hot. I took advantage. The one goal (his third) was almost like taking a cookie from a cookie jar."
KINGS 3, BLACKHAWKS 1: Michael Cammalleri is taking advantage of his chance to show injury-depleted Los Angeles what he can do. Cammalleri had his first two-goal game and Brad Chartrand snapped a 33-game scoring drought with a short-handed goal for the host Kings. Chicago's winless streak was extended to 0-7-1-3. Cammalleri had four goals in his last five games with AHL Manchester then was brought up because of a rash of injuries. Since then he has four goals in six games. "He's trying to keep himself in the lineup, and that's a good way to do it," coach Andy Murray said.
CANADIENS 1, PANTHERS 1: Viktor Kozlov scored with 1:11 left in the third to lift visiting Florida to a point. With Montreal defenseman Craig Rivet off for holding at 17:43, Kozlov scored on a six-on-four advantage after Florida pulled goalie Roberto Luongo. Kozlov's goal spoiled Jose Theodore's shutout bid and Rivet was booed every time he touched the puck the rest of the way.
PREDATORS 4, SABRES 1: Vladimir Orszagh had his first three-goal game in the league and added an assist for host Nashville. The Predators (12-10-1-0) are two games above .500 for the first time this late in a season in their six seasons.
HURRICANES 4, PENGUINS 3: Radim Vrbata had his second three-goal game to lift host Carolina. Marty Murray scored in the second for the Hurricanes, who controlled the final two periods. Carolina outshot the Penguins 38-25, including 29-17 after the first.
MAPLE LEAFS 2, SENATORS 1: Bryan McCabe scored during a two-man advantage in the second and visiting Toronto held on. Rookie Matt Stajan also scored and Ed Belfour had 24 saves to help the Maple Leafs win their fourth straight.
COYOTES: Center Krystofer Kolanos was assigned to AHL Springfield.
SHARKS: Defenseman Philippe Boucher had surgery to repair his left eye socket, which was broken Friday when he was hit by a deflected puck. ... Defenseman Jim Fahey was recalled from AHL Cleveland and center Patrick Rissmiller was reassigned there.
THRASHERS: Goaltender Jani Hurme was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 4, and defenseman Shawn Heins was recalled from AHL Chicago.
